Unsure what jailbreak to use? Click here to find out.
If you would like, feel free to watch this tutorial in video form.
Spirit is a very simple jailbreak that only requires you to plug your device into the computer and click the big jailbreak button. You shouldn’t lose any information during the process. However, as with all jailbreaks there’s a chance that something could go wrong. To make sure you don’t lose any data, plug your device into iTunes and let it fully back up all your data.
In addition, if you are currently jailbroken with a tethered jailbreak (aka you need to rejailbreak every time you reboot your device) you will need to restore first to a fresh copy of iOS 3.1.2, iOS 3.1.3 or iOS 3.2 to use Spirit. If you need to do this it will likely be easier to just upgrade to a newer version of iOS and use a different jailbreak. If you aren’t already jailbroken with a tethered jailbreak skip this step.
Once you’re all set, it’s time to begin. Start by downloading Spirit from this link for Windows, Mac OS X or Linux.
Open Spirit and plug your device into the computer. Give it a moment and then it should recognize your device and firmware.
Click ‘Jailbreak’. The process should take a few minutes. If you get error code c0000005 on Windows, just right click Spirit and go into Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and select Windows 95 then try the jailbreak again.
Once it’s done your device should boot up like normal. You should now have Cydia on your device. Congratulations, you are now jailbroken!
